CFA FAQs

Change in format for CFA Tuition classes in 2022

We are following Government guidelines on an ongoing basis in deciding the format of your training. To keep you updated, we wanted to notify you that due to existing, and potential ongoing, social distancing restrictions we have made the decision to run all CFA classes in a Live Online format until the end of January 2022.

We have made this decision to provide you with certainty around preparing to undertake your exam.

The remainder of your Tuition classes will be delivered by our UK tutor faculty and will be accessed via Zoom. The timetable of classes will remain unchanged, with evening classes running from 6pm to 9pm.

We will continue to monitor the latest developments and confirm the format of revision classes closer to the time.

Will you be extending our online account access as a result of the postponement of the 2020 CFA exam?

We understand the inconvenience and frustration that is caused when exams are postponed or canceled and we are committed to doing our part to mitigate the impact of the virus. In order to support our candidates, we will automatically be extending online access to our 2020 products through June 15th, 2021.

United Kingdom Live class information:

Are in-person classes canceled?

Kaplan’s top priorities are the health and safety of employees, students, customers, and the community while continuing to provide the highest quality educational programs and support under any circumstances. As you are aware, things in our communities continue to change rapidly relative to COVID-19. In response, we’ve made the decision to cancel all live, in-person classes with start dates from March 19, 2020. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update if anything changes.

Will Kaplan be repeating Education/Tuition/Instruction classes for June 2020?

Kaplan are currently not intending to repeat Tuition/Instruction teaching, and strongly advise you to complete your Tuition/Instruction teaching through the online delivery platform now in place. In addition to Revision/Review courses for the December sittings, additional support measures to maintain and refresh Tuition knowledge will be offered to June 2020 delegates free of charge. The fast pace of changes makes it difficult to predict exactly what the course options will be, but we will keep you updated when there are choices and decisions for you to make.

What will happen to my Revision/Review class?

Consistent with CFA Institute’s exam policy, we will defer your Revision/Review class (if relevant) to any exam sitting in 2021 free of charge on request. Plus, provide any additional support measures to maintain and refresh Tuition phase knowledge i.e. access to our Masterclasses. But if you choose to sit your exam in December 2020 and you have purchased a revision course, you will be given access to our alternative live online classes due to the pandemic restrictions.

Please note we have automatically extended online access to our 2020 products to 15th June 2021 when access expires.

America’s Live class information:

Kaplan’s top priorities are the health and safety of employees, students, customers, and the community while continuing to provide the highest quality educational programs and support under any circumstances. As you are aware, things in our communities continue to change rapidly relative to COVID-19. In response, we’ve made the decision to cancel all live, in-person classes with start dates from March 19 through May 1, 2020. We are also in the process of rescheduling our Review Workshops and Mock Exams to support you through the exam postponements. You will be notified when these changes occur.

If you have registered for a live, in-person class, we are notifying all customers and whenever possible, we will provide you with other options, such as online, self study, or virtual live online classes to ensure you receive the education and support you need from Kaplan. In many cases, we can help you find an alternative online option so you can continue with your educational program. If that is not an option, we will reschedule once we have re-established live, in-person classes at your location.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at 877-311-9770 so that we can help you make the right decision for your needs.

Will the current curriculum be tested at all deferred exams?

To minimise the impact of the postponement of the 2020 exams the CFA curriculum for all three levels is being frozen for two exam sittings. The next time a new syllabus will be tested is in 2022.

Now that the June 2020 CFA exam has been postponed, how should we proceed with our study plan?

The answer to this question will depend on where you are in your study plan. We will be providing additional guidance to assist all candidates in planning their study time between now and the December CFA exam. Options for Postponed June 2020 CFA® Exam: Which Should You Choose?

The CFA Institute has announced the dates for those who registered for the 2020 CFA® exam and they may choose to defer to an exam sitting in 2021. FRM FAQs

Why did GARP postpone the May 2020 FRM Exams?

Due to increased concerns and uncertainty about the COVID-19 virus, Garp postponed the May exams for the Financial Risk Manager (FRM).

How will candidates be informed of their options regarding this postponement?

All May FRM candidates will be automatically deferred to the new exam date later this year. GARP will provide regular updates on the website and via email and social media, ensuring candidates are kept as informed as possible

When will the new exam dates be?

Exams scheduled for May 16, 2020 will be rescheduled to October 24, 2020. All May 2020 FRM and ERP candidates will be automatically placed into the new exam on October 24. Candidates have the option of deferring to the regularly scheduled November 2020 exam at no cost. The new October 24 date is effective for all exam candidates globally, except for candidates schedules to sit in India. Due to the difficulty of securing exam sites during holidays, candidates scheduled to take their May 2020 exams in India will be automatically deferred to the November 21 exam.

What is Kaplan’s immediate study advice?

Kaplan’s advice is to complete your Tuition phase teaching. We will let you know the choices for deferring your existing Revision course to a subsequent sitting, and any other course/support options that might be available to you. The continuing coronavirus situation makes it difficult to predict exactly what the course options will be, but we will keep you updated.

What will happen to my Revision/Review class?

Consistent with GARP’s exam policy we will automatically defer your Revision/Review class to the next sitting free of charge, plus include any additional support measures to maintain and refresh Tuition phase knowledge. We will automatically be extending online access for our May 2020 products.

What is the impact to my in-person course for the November 2020 sitting?

Our tuition classes will be delivered live online and will run as normal. For the November revision course starting in October, this will also be delivered as live online course.

We continue to monitor and follow Government guidelines, and recognise that restrictions on social distancing and travel may make it impossible for us to run face-to-face classes. If that happens and you are booked on a face-to-face revision class, we would like to reassure you that your classes will still run as scheduled but will switch to a Live Online format delivered by our UK tutor team.

How do I keep myself updated?

CAIA FAQs

With Pearson VUE closing, candidates sitting Level II exams booked for 20th-27th March will not be able to take their exams.

CAIA Association has offered all Level II candidates the option to defer their exam to September 2020, or receive a refund of their exam registration fee. September 2020 exam registration is now opened.

Can I use my Schweser March 2020 material for my September 2020 Level II exam?

Yes, there will be no changes to the curriculum.

What is the impact on my September 2020 in-person course?

The classroom tuition is moving to Live Online, all relevant course materials will be delivered to you by post. Our September revision course will be starting in August, our current expectation is that classroom courses will take place as planned.

We continue to monitor and follow Government guidelines, and recognise that restrictions on social distancing and travel may make it impossible for us to run face-to-face classes later in the year. If that happens and you are booked on a face-to-face revision class, we would like to reassure you that your classes will still run as scheduled but will switch to a Live Online format delivered by our UK tutor team.

IMC FAQs

CFA UK launched OnVUE Online Proctored examinations, enabling exams to be taken from home as of 1st July 2020. Students can choose to take their exam online or at a CFA UK Pearson VUE test centre (both subject to availability).

You should also note that to enable IMC exams to move to online, two changes have had to be made to the format of the exam. From 1 June candidates will no longer be permitted to use handheld calculators. Instead, an onscreen calculator (Texas Instruments TI-30XS or TI-30XB) will be provided. This applies to all candidates whether testing in a test centre or via OnVUE. Candidates should familiarise themselves with the onscreen calculator.

Candidates sitting via OnVUE will also be provided with an onscreen whiteboard. This only applies to OnVUE sittings. Physical erasable whiteboards will still be available for all candidates sitting in test centres.

An online exam demo incorporating the calculator and scratch pad (in the format of the Pearson VUE real exam) can be found on the Pearson Vue website.

For more detailed information including system requirements please visit the CFA UK website and the Pearson Vue website.

Would you be running any in-person classes?

IMC weekday and evening courses will continue to run per the published 2020 timetable, but will be delivered Live Online. Delegates will be contacted in the two weeks before their course with joining instructions, links for the sessions and printable course materials in PDF format.

We continue to monitor and follow Government guidelines, and recognise that restrictions on social distancing and travel may make it impossible for us to run face-to-face classes early next year. If that happens and you are booked on a face-to-face revision class, we would like to reassure you that your classes will still run as scheduled but will switch to a Live Online format delivered by our UK tutor team.

For the most up-to-date information delegates are advised to monitor the COVID-19 Update on the Pearson VUE website.
